Labor Day means a three-day weekend for many folks, and although this is our first one during a pandemic, there are still a few things to do to celebrate these final days of summer.
Catch live music in a scenic setting during Sunset Sessions at Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill on Friday and Saturday night. The Greenway is open to members only on weekends, and memberships can be purchased online. Click here for more information.
Enjoy local brews, tasty food and lots of tunes at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery. The biergarten is open all weekend. Click here for more information.
Enjoy dinner and a movie at The Big View Diner. On Saturdays the restaurant turns into a temporary drive-in. This weekend, catch “The Princess Bride” at 8:30 p.m. Click here for more details.
“Wine” down with a short road trip to Shelton Vineyards, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. On Saturday, the tasting room will be open and there will be live music on the terrace from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Click here for more information.
Leave city living behind for a few hours and spend the day at a farm. Dallas Lavender Lane Farm is hosting its last lavender plant sale of the year this weekend. They’ll also have unique lavender products available such as lavender cider, and you can see baby goats and Grunt the pig. The farm is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Monday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Click here for more information.
At Windy Hill Orchard and Cider Mill in York, you can get your fill of apple cider and apple cider doughnuts. A limited number of reservations will be available for pick-your-own apples as well. Click here for more details.
At Carrigan Farms in Mooresville, you can go for a swim in a natural, spring-fed quarry. To help limit the number of visitors and provide more room for social distancing, advance reservations are required. Click here for more information or to make reservations.
If you’ve been spending too much time inside and need a change of scenery, there are some great hiking trails in and around Charlotte. From tree-lined paths at McDowell Nature Preserve to lakeside views at Latta Plantation Nature Preserve, click here for a list of our favorite places to connect with nature.
A lot of these places are also part of the Carolina Thread Trail, a regional network of connected greenways, trails and blueways. Click here to learn more about the Carolina Thread Trail.
See more planes, trains and automobiles at the North Carolina Transportation Museum beginning this weekend. On Saturday the museum will reopen its exhibits buildings to the public with limited capacity. Click here for more information.
If day-tripping is more your style, North Carolina is home to many spectacular waterfalls that are an easy drive from the Queen City. Click here to see a list of our favorites.
