CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A new segment of the Cross Charlotte Trail (XCLT) has opened in South Charlotte.
The .75-mile-long trail, called the South Charlotte Connector, joins the McMullen/McAlpine/Four Mile Creek Greenway system to the Cross Charlotte Trail and Little Sugar Creek Greenway.
It runs parallel to Interstate 485 between McMullen Creek and Park Road near the Pineville city limit and features a boardwalk system and bridge over McMullen Creek near Charlotte Water’s McAlpine Creek Waste Water Treatment Plant.
The new segment, completed by the City of Charlotte, expands access to the Cross Charlotte Trail by approximately six miles.
We're so excited to see the 0.75 mile South Charlotte Connector is OPEN! This project opens up access to 6 miles of the Cross Charlotte Trail to thousands of people, providing a safe place to walk and bike. Check it out (with safe social distancing!) and post a photo with #XCLT. pic.twitter.com/bELkRHlDtc

Another segment of the connector, which extends south from Park Road to the President James K. Polk State Historic Site, is currently in design and will be built by Mecklenburg County.
It will connect to the Little Sugar Creek Greenway down to the South Carolina state line.
To celebrate the opening of the South Charlotte Connector, the City is encouraging users to snap a selfie on the trail using #XCLT on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
