CHARLOTTE, N.C. — This weekend see the work of more than 40 local artists of color and street artists in a three-day pop up exhibition at Mint Museum Randolph.
Artist Carla Aaron-Lopez, a CMS teacher and co-founder of Blkmrktclt, organized “LOCAL/STREET” as a way of bringing attention to as many local artists of color as possible, strengthening the relationship between them and the greater Charlotte community.
The exhibition will feature artists ranging from those who created Charlotte’s “Black Lives Matter” mural to the Latinx communities and artists in the local street art scene. The work represented will be broad and expansive — from digital illustrations of Afrofuturism to photographs from trips across the Atlantic.
Hours are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is free Friday night. The exhibition is included in museum admission on Saturday.
On Sunday, the Mint will kickoff a new season of its monthly Party in the Park event. Admission will be free and there will be food trucks and live music in addition to the pop up exhibition.
Guests must wear masks while inside the Mint. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 50 guests may be in LOCAL/STREET at the same time. Timed ticketing is still in place, so visitors are encouraged to reserve free tickets online in advance.
