It’s all in the family at Pupusa 503

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

CHARLOTTE — When Ismael Gonzalez could not find a restaurant in Charlotte that made pupusas to his liking, he and his family took matters into their own hands.

In 2020, despite the pandemic, he and his sister opened Pupusa 503.

Their specialty: Salvadoran pupusas, of course — thick corn tortillas stuffed with meats, cheese and vegetables.

In addition to his sister, Gonzalez’s wife and brother work at the University City restaurant as well.

>> In the video at the top of this page, Your704′s Elsa Gillis visits the restaurant and gets a lesson in making pupusa.

Pupusa 503 is at 850-C Chancellor Park in Charlotte.
