Extras needed for movie version of iconic novel being filmed in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Kimmie Stewart Casting is holding an open casting call for extras for the adaptation of Judy Blume’s iconic coming-of-age novel that will be filmed in Charlotte.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Lionsgate will begin production on the movie version of “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” in April.

Abby Ryder Fortson from the “Ant-Man” films will play Margaret, and Rachel McAdams will play Margaret’s mother, Barbara.

Kelly Fremon Craig, who created the 2016 coming-of-age drama “The Edge of Seventeen,” is writing and directing the movie, while James L. Brooks of “Terms of Endearment” will be producing. Blume will also serve as a producer.

According to the casting company’s Facebook page, all ages, races and types are needed, and all extras will be paid.

Tona B. Dahlquist Casting, which has handled projects in the Charlotte area such as “The Hunger Games,” “Homeland,” “Banshee” and “Paper Towns,” was initially handling the project.
