Dirndls, dancing on tap at OMB’s Mecktoberfest

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Put on your dirndl and lederhosen because it’s time for one of Charlotte’s most popular Oktoberfest celebrations this weekend. Olde Mecklenburg Brewery will host its 12th annual Mecktoberfest Friday through Sunday.

There will be traditional German fare, including sausages and Bavarian pretzels with bier cheese and spicy Düsseldorf mustard.

OMB’s award-winning Mecktoberfest Märzen Lager will be on tap as well as year-round brews such as Copper Altbier, Captain Jack Pilsner, Hornets Nest Hefeweizen, Fat Boy Baltic Porter and the new beer 704 Hazy Wheat Ale.

For entertainment, the Holzhackern Tyrolean Band will perform high-energy arrangements of traditional Bavarian songs in English and German.

The brewery’s expansive 10.5-acre wooded grounds at 4150 Yancey Rd. will have plenty of well-spaced seating outdoors, on the covered patio and in the Brauhaus.

Admission is free and face masks are required.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Pro tip: Be sure to get there early if you want to snag one of the brewery’s highly sought-after Das Boots, a 1-liter glass boot with a gold-leaf OMB logo. A limited number will be available each day.
