Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden cancels Lantern Festival, announces holiday show

BELMONT, N.C. — We’ve got good news and bad news.

First, the bad news: Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden has canceled its popular Chinese Lantern Festival.

The show, originally scheduled to kick off in August and rescheduled to begin Oct. 15 due to COVID-19 restrictions, has now been canceled because the Chinese artists who produce the show were unable to secure visas needed to travel to the U.S.

Ticket holders who have not already been contacted can email info@dsbg.org for more information about their options.

The Garden hosted the Chinese Lantern Festival for the first time in fall of 2017, attracting more than 100,000 visitors in an eight-week period.

Now, for the good news: the Lantern Festival would have taken the place of the Garden’s traditional winter event, but now “Holidays at the Garden” is scheduled to start in late November.

More information on the holiday show will be announced soon.
