Charlotte’s arena football team kicks off season

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Professional football is back in Charlotte this spring. The Charlotte Thunder arena football team has kicked off its season at Bojangles Coliseum.

The team is owned by former Carolina Panthers players Thomas Davis and Ted Ginn Jr., and Charlotte businessman Joe Maus.

The Thunder is a member of the American Arena League and will play in the East Division against teams from Florida, Mississippi, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Home games will be played at 7:30 p.m. at the coliseum unless otherwise noted. Here are the 2021 dates and opponents:

March 27 vs. Pennsylvania Union

April 3 vs. South Carolina Cowboyz

April 17 vs. Georgialina Lions

April 24 vs. St. Louis Bandits

May 1 vs. Carolina Predators

May 22 vs. Jersey Bearcats

May 29 vs. Reading Raptors

June 6 vs. Carolina Predators (game time is 3 p.m.)

Tickets cost $15. Parking is included in the ticket price.

Face masks are no longer required but are strongly encouraged.

To help expedite entry and alleviate touchpoints, fans are encouraged not to carry bags. If you must bring a bag, it must be a clear purse, tote bag or diaper bag no larger than 14 in. x 14 in. x 6 in.
