KEEPING YOU SAFE: Changes to Severe Weather Watches and Warnings

CHARLOTTE, N.C — As we head into the spring season, our team of meteorologists has made some slight improvements on the display of our watches and warnings as they are issued by the National Weather Service.

When any type of warning is issued, for example, a tornado or severe thunderstorm, it will show up with a red background. The outlined color correlates to the specific type of warning; red for tornado, orange for severe thunderstorm.

An orange background indicates a watch, whether it is a tornado, severe thunderstorm or flash flood.

Finally, a yellow background shows that an advisory has been issued.
