FORECAST: Haze from Canada wildfires returns to Charlotte region

AIR QUALITY:

  • Canadian wildfire smoke has once again engulfed Charlotte in a haze. By 3:30 p.m. Monday, Charlotte had Code Red level air quality, Chief Meteorologist Steve Udelson said.
  • Code Red means people should limit prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors. Anyone sensitive to air pollution, including people with asthma, should avoid outdoor exertion altogether.
  • Tuesday is forecasted to have Code Orange Air Quality starting at 12 a.m. in the western part of North Carolina, according to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.
  • The smoke is expected to impact air quality on Tuesday morning, but conditions are forecasted to improve throughout the day.

FORECAST:

  • There are chances of thunderstorms starting Tuesday through the rest of the work week as highs stay in the 90s.
  • High temperatures will drop into the upper-80s this weekend as the chance of showers continues.
