FORECAST: Heavy downpours expected tonight ahead of drier weekend

FORECAST:

  • It’s a mild start to the day! Temperatures are in the mid to upper 40s with cloudy skies.
  • We stay dry through the early afternoon with breezy winds out of the south. Highs climb up near 70 this afternoon.
  • There is also a Code Orange Air Quality Alert in place for Burke, McDowell, Mitchell, and Yancey counties for today due to wildfire smoke.
  • We’re tracking a line of showers and storms that will move through the area starting late afternoon through tonight.
  • Expect a wet evening commute and Friday night with heavy downpours and some rumbles of thunder.
  • We could see some gusty winds too, but severe weather is not expected.
  • This wet weather will alleviate air quality concerns for the weekend.
  • The weekend is drier! Saturday is the weekend pick with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 60s.
  • A few more clouds around Sunday with highs in the upper 50s.
