FORECAST:
- We’re in for a dreary Sunday across the area. A wintry mix is ongoing in the high country with freezing rain the biggest threat through the morning.
- Some sleet or snow could mix in at times.
- A Winter Weather Advisory continues until noon for Ashe, Avery, Watauga, Caldwell, Alexander, and northern Burke counties due to the potential of ice accumulating and creating slick travel conditions.
- Temperatures climb above freezing after noon and the winter weather threat shifts to a plain rain threat.
- The rest of the area is dry to start but will see scattered showers moving in through the late morning, continuing on and off through the rest of the day.
- Skies are overcast and it’s chilly with a northeast breeze keeping temperatures in the 40s.
- Improvements arrive for the work week when we warm up and dry out.
- Another system brings showers late Wednesday into Thursday.
