Your auto glass plays an absolutely essential part in your drive time. It keeps your cabin comfortable, keeps the outside, well… outside, and protects you from wind, dirt, and debris. That’s why it’s important that you keep it in good shape and when it gets damaged - which it likely will at some point - repair or replace it immediately. Toyota of N Charlotte is here with all the info you need about this feature of your car and how to care for it.
Auto glass damage: it happens!
Damage will probably occur when it comes to your auto glass - it’s almost inevitable. All it takes is one little rock on the highway flying up to crack your windshield, and then you have to factor in construction debris, car accidents, and bad weather to boot. What usually happens is that your glass gets chipped on the top layer. This may not seem like a big deal, but it weakens the structure of the glass and in turn, can result in cracks spiderwebbing out from the chipped spot. When those cracks occur, you’re in trouble because they seriously compromise the integrity of your auto glass. This puts both you and your passengers at risk, which is why it’s so important to visit our N Charlotte Toyota Collision Center for repairs as quickly as you can.
How do you know if you need repairs or an entire replacement? It depends on the damage itself. Typically, if the damage is smaller than a quarter and doesn’t have cracks extending from it, you can do with an auto glass repair. This may leave a blemish in the glass, though, so be sure you ask your repair technician before you agree to this course of action. This type of repair typically runs $80-100 if processed through your insurance.
If the damage is larger than a quarter or has cracks spiderwebbing out of it, then you might need an auto glass replacement. This can get pricey - typically, this type of repair can run upwards of $300-400.
One thing to keep in mind is that you should process your auto glass repairs or windshield replacement through your car insurance company. Unfortunately, it’s not covered for free in the state of North Carolina (unlike our sister stores in Florida, where you can get a replacement windshield without even paying a deductible). However, you can pay toward a deductible, which can help bring the cost down for these necessary repairs.
