Filing a police report doesn't require a visit to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department headquarters. Citizens can file a Charlotte police report online, from any computer with internet access.
Here's a simple guide to filing a Charlotte police report.
Step 1: Select the type of crime
The police report portal can be found here. There are six categories that can be selected as crimes to be reported: communicating threats, harassing phone calls, damage to property, stolen property, theft from vehicle or lost passport or driver's license. Choose which one applies at the far right of the category on the arrow, which will take you to another page.
Step 2: Fill out the form
Once you select the crime you'll be reporting and click the arrow to proceed to another page, now it's time to fill out the actual crime report. The first page of the report will ask you to select the exact time of the crime within the broader category chosen. From there, the report will ask for your personal information, details about the incident, a narrative report, miscellaneous other details that are important and you will have the opportunity to review everything you've filled out until that point.
Step 3: Submit the report
Once the police report has been submitted, a message will appear on the screen confirming it and a temporary report number will be issued. You also have the option of printing the police report for your own records. From there, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will be in touch to issue updates on your police report.
