CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Channel 9 is investigating a crisis in Charlotte.
Hardworking families are struggling to find an affordable place to live. Charlotte needs 24,000 more affordable units, according to consultants for the city. Consultants said one in three households are spending more than 1/3 of their incomes on housing, which is considered cost-burdened.

Channel 9 spoke to families moving to the area who can not find a home, families worried they will lose their place to live and residents living in unimaginable conditions because they can not afford to look elsewhere.
Channel 9 spoke with city leaders and housing experts trying to tackle this complicated issue. We also dug into what other cities are doing to address similar issues and what we can learn from them.
