CHARLOTTE — Bryan Moore became the first Charlotte native to attend organized activities with a National Hockey League club after attending the Carolina Hurricanes development camp last week.
Moore grew up cheering for the Hurricanes. He would like a chance to play for his home team.
"I'm just really waiting, playing the waiting game. Just wait, see what happens, trying to be as calm as I can," Moore said.
Moore also skated with the New York Rangers in their camp last month, but it is a shot with the Hurricanes he wants. He grew up in the Junior Checkers program and served as a stick boy for the team as a kid.
"It would be a dream come true if I got to be with the Hurricanes and the Checkers just because I'm from the Charlotte area," Moore said. "It would be pretty cool to be in the organization with them and play for a hometown team."
Charlotte is not well-known for developing local talent in hockey. Moore is carrying the torch for his hometown and hoping his example will inspire future Junior Checkers, and start to funnel talent to the highest level of professional hockey.
"I think they really do look up to me and I hope I can help them out as much as they want and they see me doing what I do, and they'll try to live the dream too and keep pursing what they like to do," Moore said.
The next step for Bryan is waiting for a contract from the Rangers or Hurricanes, or an offer to represent one of those two teams at a tournament for prospects in September.
