DAVIDSON, NC — It seemed like the whole town of Davidson was celebrating Monday as a huge crowd gathered to send off the Davidson basketball team to the NCAA Tournament.

The crowd lined the road from the college athletic center to the elementary school down the road.

The team, band members, cheerleader, and even a few lucky fans packed two charter buses for the trip to take on Kentucky on Thursday night in Boise, Idaho.

Ervin Martin was one of the fans who got to go.

"When the team asks if you want to go, Yes," he said.

Max Rollfink had a mountain of school work, but couldn't resist joining his fellow band members for the trip.

"Once in a lifetime experience, I feel like, I got to go support them," he said.

This year's trip to the "Big Dance" as many call it is reminiscent of the time Davidson made it to the Elite 8 with Steph Curry. That was exactly 10 years ago.

After Davidson landed a spot in the Big Dance, NBA great Steph Curry tweeted - "It's a great day to be a Wildcat!"
