Steph Curry, a player who lives up to father's legacy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As the Charlotte Hornets' all-time leading scorer, Dell Curry was known for his 3-point shooting, and now his oldest son, Steph Curry, has become one of the best 3-point shooters in the NBA.

In March, Steph Curry was catapulted into a front-runner for this year's most valuable player award.

"People ask me all of the time, 'Did you know your son was going to be this good?' and I say, 'Yeah, right.' But as a father who played in the league, I know how hard it is to play and be consistent," Dell Curry said in March. "And play at an elite level. He does every night. It takes a lot of hard work. He's very dedicated to his sport. He's a student of his craft, he studies, he works hard and it's paying off."

Dell Curry made over 1,200 3-pointers throughout his career. Steph Curry has more than 1,100 in a six-year span.

"OK, so if you are one on one," Eyewitness News sports anchor Lawrence Gilligan said to Dell Curry. "You're in your prime in the NBA. (Steph Curry) is who he is right now, the player he is -- would he put you on skates?"

"He would, absolutely," Dell Curry said. "I probably would not play him one on one. I would use all my fouls, grab him, much like they do now to try and slow him down, try to body him up and be physical. He probably first beat me one on one when he was 12 or 13, probably the last time I played one on one with him."

There are plenty of memories Dell Curry has from being on the court with his son. His latest was at this year's All-Star game in New York, where he got to throw on a Charlotte Hornets jersey for the first time since his final season in Charlotte 16 years ago.

"Being able to put on that Hornets jersey on a team that I played for here for 10 years, and with Steph growing up with me as a Hornet," Dell Curry said. "It was his team, so it was kind of surreal to do that. To share a locker room, and play a little, shooting stars with my son, with my jersey, my Hornets jersey was a really good time."
