Are you a fan of hitting the road for a summer road trip? If so, then you probably know that one of the biggest stressors is getting the car prepped and packed before you leave. Well, Toyota of N Charlotte is here to help! We’ve got 5 tips to make packing your car easy and efficient so you can concentrate on the good stuff – hitting the road and getting where you need to go. Let’s get started! Our Charlotte auto service experts can help you pack a car like a pro
Tip #1: Pack an easy-to-reach bag.
Before you load everything into the cargo area, pack an easy-to-reach bag. This bag should hold the things you need for your road trip DURING the trip. This means chargers, cash, maps, snacks, medications, drinks, and anything else you need close at hand to ensure the trip is comfortable. Don’t forget entertainment, and also remember to bring the necessities for your four-legged friends if they’re going to be coming along for the journey.
Tip #2: Pack an overnight bag.
Pack an overnight bag for your trip if you’re going to be making any overnight stops at all. This bag should contain toiletries and changes of clothing, as well as any other medications or necessities you need to be comfortable overnight. This way, you can leave your large pieces of luggage in the car overnight and just grab your small bag to take in with you.
Tip #3: Decide HOW you’re going to pack and make sure your car can handle it.
Are you going to use roof racks? Or maybe tow something behind you? In both scenarios, you need to make sure your car can handle the extra weight. Remember, adding extra weight to the equation puts more strain on your car, especially when you're traveling over long distances at high speeds. Check your owner's manual or ask one of our Charlotte auto service techs how to handle the extra weight properly. And don't forget, make sure you install racks or a tow hitch properly!

Tip #4: Put everything heavy on the bottom.
Everything heavy should be on the bottom when you're packing the trunk or cargo area. Try to put things toward the center of the vehicle so the weight distribution is more even; you don't want too much weight on one side or another. Never put heavy items on the roof, as this throws off your car's center of gravity!
Tip #5: Leave a clear field of vision through the back of the car.
Sometimes you may think that stacking your gear to the ceiling is a good idea to maximize space when packing a car. Don’t do it! You need to have a clear field of vision to be able to use your rearview mirror properly, and you also need to be able to check your blind spots. Be careful how you pack!
