Nathan Chen won a gold medal in the men’s figure skating individual skating competition at the Winter Olympics on Thursday, putting an exclamation point on a record-setting week.

Chen became Team USA’s first Olympic gold medalist in the men’s discipline since the 2010 Vancouver Games, according to The Washington Post. Evan Lysacek took gold for the U.S. during the 2010 games, The Associated Press reported.

Chen is also the first Asian American male to win gold in figure skating. It was a sweet victory for Chen, who had a disappointing fifth-place finish at the Olympics four years ago.

Chen skated to a four-minute-long medley from the Elton John biopic, “Rocketman.” He finished with 332.60 points.

Japan’s Yuma Kagiyama was second with 310.05 points to win the silver medal, while teammate Shoma Uno took the bronze medal with 293.00 points.

Two-time gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu came up short in his bid for a third straight Olympic title after falling while attempting to land a quadruple axel, the Post reported.

On Tuesday, the American figure skater broke the world record for the highest score in a short program. Chen, 22, from Utah, finished with 113.97 points, according to the AP.

That continued Chen’s hot streak on the ice. He won his sixth consecutive U.S. figure skating championship in January, ESPN reported. According to ESPN Stats and Information, that has not been done since Richard Burton won seven straight titles from 1946 to 1952.
