The 146th show was expected to take place late next month, but on Wednesday, organizers said the event will be pushed back later in the year, The New York Times reported.

“Due to the surge of the Omicron variant in New York City, the Board of Governors of the Westminster Kennel Club has made the difficult decision to postpone the 146th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show Presented by Purina Pro Plan to a later date in 2022,” the kennel club said in a statement, according to People magazine.

This isn’t the first time that the coronavirus has delayed the dog show. It was also postponed from February 2021 to June and was moved from inside Madison Square Garden to an outside location at Lyndhurst, an estate in Tarrytown, New York, The New York Times reported.

Spectators were also not permitted at the 2021 event.

A new date will be announced at a later time once it is confirmed, People magazine reported.
