WILMINGTON, N.C. — A video of a kayaker's frightening run-in with an alligator is going viral.

According to WECT, Peter Joyce captured the moment Sunday as he kayaked along North Carolina's Waccamaw River. A video recorded during the outing shows Joyce paddling peacefully until a gator charges toward him, pushing the kayak onto its side before swimming away. Joyce takes a moment to find his bearings and continues down the river.

WECT shared Joyce's video on its Facebook page, where the clip drew more than 2,200 comments and 2,300 reactions from viewers.

"Kudos on staying so calm," commenter Amanda Aburahmeh said of Joyce.

"One time I was in the lazy river at a hotel in Myrtle Beach, and a gator-shaped float bumped into my raft, so I kinda know how this guy feels," quipped another viewer, Chuck Britt.
