A lunchtime break turned into a $5 million payday for a Virginia man.
Frankie Bowles, of Culpeper, went to a 7-Eleven during his lunch break July 10 and decided to buy a 50X the Money ticket from the Virginia Lottery.
Bowles said the clerk told him, “Who knows? You might win the big one.”
The clerk was right. Bowles, a systems administrator, went to his car, scratched off the ticket and found it was a $5 million winner, Virginia Lottery officials said Tuesday.
“I said, ‘This is $5 million!’” Bowles said. “I couldn’t believe it!”
Bowles decided on the cash option, which means he will receive $3,008,434 before taxes, Virginia Lottery officials said. Bowles said he had not decided what to do with his winnings, other than paying bills.
