LAKE MARION, S.C. — It was a big weekend for alligator hunters in South Carolina who bagged a pair of massive catches.
Cordray’s Processing and Taxidermy in Ravenel, South Carolina, shared photos of one massive gator on its Facebook page. In the accompanying post, Cordray’s said that the 625-pound animal had been caught in Lake Marion by Nick Gilbert and his crew.
Cordray’s said in a post early Sunday that it had already received 18 alligators for processing in the first weekend of the annual alligator hunt in South Carolina, making it the business’ biggest-ever opening alligator weekend.
Michael Cordray, the business’ owner, told The State that the 13-foot animal was one of the top five in terms of length and weight he’s processed in the 30 years since he started the business. The largest he’s ever received for processing weighed 825 pounds and measured 13 feet, 6 inches.
Another giant alligator was found Sunday, also on Lake Marion. Jeff Hobday and Paul Burdick brought the 13-foot, 5.5-inch monster to 301 Deer & Wild Hog Processing and Taxidermy, where it weighed in at 825 pounds, according to a Facebook post.
“We have caught a couple 10-11 footers in the past,” Hobday told WCIV. “Most of the time they weigh around 400 pounds. This was the biggest one I have ever caught by far.”
