Trump to visit Kenosha on Tuesday

President Donald Trump will travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to meet with law enforcement officials on Tuesday, the White House announced.

Kenosha has been the site of unrest since the shooting of Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old Black man, on Sunday. Blake was shot seven times in the back by Kenosha police Officer Rusten Sheskey and remained in a hospital. His family said Blake was partially paralyzed.

The shooting sparked protests in Kenosha and led to the shooting deaths of two men Tuesday night.

Trump’s visit was confirmed by White House spokesman Judd Deere, who said the president would also survey some of the damage caused by the violence in Kenosha during the past week.

When reporters asked if the president would meet with Blake’s family, Deere said the details of the president’s schedule had not been completed, CNN reported.

The president was in Louisiana earlier Saturday to survey the damage caused by Hurricane Laura earlier this week.

The decision came after Trump addressed the unrest in Wisconsin on Friday during a rally in New Hampshire.

“It was not a good night,” Trump said. “I didn’t like the sight of it, certainly, and I think most people would agree with that.”

On Saturday, approximately 1,000 people gathered in Kenosha for a march and rally to protest police violence, The Associated Press reported. Marchers chanted, “No justice, no peace,” and “Seven bullets, seven days.”
