UVALDE, Texas — Students and staff at Robb Elementary will not be going back to the building where a gunman killed 19 children and two teachers.
The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District released a statement on Wednesday saying that the district is not sending anyone back to the campus, KTVT reported.
Dr. Hal Harrell, the district’s superintendent, said: “Students and staff will not be returning to the Robb Elementary campus. We are working through plans on how to serve students on other campuses and will provide that information as soon as it is finalized. We are also working with agencies to help us identify improvements on all UCISD campuses.”

Harrell also said that the district will not comment on the ongoing investigation, but assured the community that it will be working with law enforcement.
Officials are not sure what will be done with the building in the future. Officials are considering knocking down the building and rebuilding it with the possibility of using federal money for construction, The Dallas Morning News reported.
KXAS reported that Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin confirmed the plans.
“I don’t think anybody’s plans are but to tear that building down,” McLaughlin said, according to KXAS. “I would never ask, expect, a child to ever have to walk in those doors ever, ever again. That building needs to be gone.”
