GALVESTON, Texas — As if a hurricane making landfall on the beach wasn’t scary enough, a man dressed as “Halloween” slasher Michael Myers walking along the shore was equally terrifying.
Texas authorities were not amused.
Police in Galveston detained a man dressed up as the horror movie character as Hurricane Nicholas approached the Texas coast on Monday night, The Galveston County Herald reported. According to Galveston Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Stacy Papillion, authorities received a 911 call about a man walking the beach carrying what appeared to be a bloody knife, the newspaper reported.
The man, Galveston attorney Mark A. Metzger III, was briefly handcuffed until authorities realized the knife and blood were fake, the Houston Chronicle reported. Metzger, who posted photographs of himself in costume on his Facebook page, said the costume was a prank.
“Calm before the storm,” Metzger wrote on Facebook.
Metzger was cited for disorderly conduct and released, Papillion told the Herald.
Metzger acknowledged being hit with the misdemeanor charge but said he was “still fuzzy” about what was illegal about his stroll on the beach, the newspaper reported.
“It felt like a scene out of ‘Scooby-Doo’ after they handcuffed me and pulled the mask off, like, ‘I would have gotten away with it if wasn’t for those meddling Karens, you know?” Metzger told KTRK.
In a second Facebook post, Metzger wrote his appearance on the beach was about “bringing positive vibes to the gloom and doom out there, generating some laughter, helping people crack a smile, and restoring our faith in humanity through humor.”
“So if taking a silly walk down the beach during a storm in a costume, and subsequently being arrested for disorderly conduct accomplished any of that .... then I’d do it again all day every day,” Metzger wrote.

Metzger said he read some negative feedback on social media, but people on the beach stopped him to take photographs, KTRK reported.
One beach patrol officer even played the “Halloween” movie theme song, Metzger told the television station.
Metzger said he had no regrets.
”If I had to do it all over again, I absolutely would,” he told KTRK.
