Days after Queen Elizabeth II said goodbye to her husband of more than seven decades, the regent marks a solemn 95th birthday.
The queen thanked her country for the “support and kindness” shown after the death of Prince Philip, The Associated Press reported.
The message was posted to Twitter on Wednesday morning.

The queen is expected to spend part of her day with members of the royal family at Windsor Castle, as her birthday falls in the two-week royal mourning period. Official mourning ends Friday, the AP reported. There will be no public celebration to mark Elizabeth birthday, NBC News reported.
There will also be no traditional gun salute held at the Tower of London or Hyde Park, Reuters reported. They were also canceled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, USA Today reported.

Normally, her April birthday is celebrated in private and marked in June with the Trooping of the Colour. But the parade has been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the queen’s life will be honored next year, as she will mark 70 years on the throne. Planning has already begun on her Platinum Jubilee. There will be “events that mix the best of British ceremonial splendor and pageantry with cutting edge artistic and technological displays,” NBC News reported.
