HOUSTON, Texas — Police are searching for the gunman who murdered a woman and her unborn child Friday.
Investigators said that Jennifer Hernandez, 20, was eight months pregnant when was she was shot and killed, KWTX reported.
Hernandez was found shot, along with her boyfriend, in a car. Deputies told KRTK that Hernandez was in the passenger seat of the car. Her boyfriend, 17, was shot twice but survived.
The couple had just left a gas station when they were shot, deputies told KWTX. The shooter is suspected to be the driver of a white four-door sedan with tinted windows and paper plates that sped up beside them and fired multiple shots into their car, the station said.
Harris County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ben Beall told KTRK that the incident may have been provoked by road rage, but the surviving victim said that there had been no altercation prior to the shooting.
“According to the driver, he said there was no interaction before that. They did stop at the gas station just west of here and he said he has no idea where the vehicle came from. It just came out of nowhere, started shooting at him,” Beall told KTRK.
Hernandez’s family created a GoFundMe to raise money in her memory.
Her family told KTRK that Hernandez’s baby, a boy, would have been the first grandchild and nephew in the family. Hernandez’s baby shower was scheduled for the day after her murder.
