Police: Zaxby’s employee in SC doused with hot grease during attack by co-worker

WALHALLA, S.C. — An employee at a Zaxby’s restaurant in South Carolina is accused of throwing hot grease on a co-worker and attacking several other employees, authorities said.

Thomas Lamar Cobb Jr., 49, was arrested on Feb. 17 and charged with high and aggravated assault and battery as well as two counts of third-degree assault and battery, according to Oconee County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

According to an incident report from the Walhalla Police Department, Cobb allegedly told police that he had been drinking at work and got into an argument with another employee, WYFF-TV reported.

The manager of the chicken chain restaurant in Walhalla allegedly told police that Cobb had attacked two other employees, WHNS-TV reported.

Cobb allegedly admitted to police that he threw something at a co-worker but did not know it was hot, according to the television station.

One of the victims told police that Cobb allegedly grabbed him around the throat, while another employee claimed that he struck her, WHNS reported.

The employee who was doused with the grease was taken to an area burn center for treatment, according to WYFF. In addition to burns, the employee had skin missing from his face, eye, hands, shoulder and back, the television station reported.

Cobb remains at the Oconee County Detention Center, online records show.
