ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. — Multiple people were injured in a shooting Friday at a South Carolina beach, police say.
The Isle of Palms Police said that a shooting happened Friday just after 5 p.m. at a beach in Isle of Palms, according to The Associated Press. Six people were injured in the shooting.
Isle of Palms Police Chief Kevin Cornett said during a news conference that the shooting happened in the middle of multiple fights among those participating in senior skip day, CNN reported.
The victims had non-life-threatening injuries. Cornett said some of the injured were taken by ambulance to an area hospital and some took themselves. Five of the injured were teenagers and one was a woman in her 30s, Cornett said, according to the AP.
“I’ve been living here for four years,” Cornett said, according to WLTX. “We haven’t had one (shooting) in the four years that I’ve been here.”
Cornett said that there are multiple people detained for weapons charges but it was unclear if any of them were the ones who fired the gun, according to WLTX.
It’s not clear if there were one or more shooters, according to CNN.
