SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Students returning to a Maine high school to pick up their caps and gowns after months away were surprised to see a flock of plastic pink flamingos placed on the football field where their commencement ceremony normally would have been held.
It is still a mystery as to who placed the nearly-200 pink flamingos on the field at South Portland High School, WMTW reported.

With schools across the country having closed campuses and scuttled traditional graduation plans as part of social distancing measures because of the coronavirus, the kitsch, avian-themed yard art helped lighten the mood.
"Kind of makes the whole situation seem a little more fun," graduating senior Izzy Chase told WCSH. "It was really funny."
The school’s graduation ceremonies are scattered among neighborhood schools where small groups of graduates can pick up their diplomas, WMTW reported.
