A penguin jumped into a tour boat in an attempt to escape the jaws of a killer whale.
Matthew and Anna Karsten were watching orcas off the coast of Antarctica in the Gerlache Strait with other tour groups when they captured video of a penguin swimming up to the boat as it was being chased by a whale, The Independent reported.
It tries repeatedly to leap from the water before it is helped aboard by tourists. The boat starts to move and it is then pursued by a pod of whales. The penguin stands on the deck of the boat before it eventually jumps back into the icy water.
“It was crazy to see in person” travel blogger Matthew Karsten told The Independent. “It was like watching a National Geographic episode on location. I imagine the penguin was very relieved to get away.”
