NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio — An Ohio woman is accused of trying to lunge for a gun after she was detained at a Cleveland-area Walmart on suspicion of theft, authorities said.
Brandi L. Bullington, 40, of Cleveland, was charged with one count of robbery, WJW-TV reported.
According to the North Olmsted Police Department, officers were called to a Walmart about a reported theft at about 2 p.m. EST on Tuesday, the television station reported.
Officers found Alexander Michalewicz, 44, of Cleveland, in possession of a homemade zip gun and took him out of the store to a patrol car, according to the police department. Bullington, meanwhile -- who also has an alias of Britney R. Bullington, according to police records -- remained in the Walmart loss prevention office with two store employees and a police officer, according to WJW.
Bullington reportedly told police that she was pregnant, so she was handcuffed with her hands in front of her, WOIO-TV reported.
While collecting evidence, police said Bullington lunged for an officer’s gun and grabbed it with both hands, the television station reported. Surveillance video shows the woman wrestling over the weapon until Bullington was subdued.
According to an arrest report, Bullington gouged the officer in the face multiple times. In the surveillance video, a second officer is shown forcing the office door open and separating Bullington from the officer.
Bullington eventually admitted to police that she was not pregnant, WOIO reported.
Michalewicz was also charged with one count of robbery.
Police said more charges could be pending for Bullington and Michalewicz.
