Ohio police officer accused of raping child over 3-year period

WEST MILTON, Ohio — A West Milton, Ohio, police officer remains in the Miami County Jail today on a grand jury indictment charging him with three felony counts of rape of a person younger than 13.

Kevin C. Wright, 32, is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with another between Aug. 1, 2017, and June 1, 2018; Aug. 1, 2018, to June 1, 2019; and Dec. 8, 2019.

The child was between the ages of 10 and 12 during the alleged offenses, according to the indictment.

Wright was jailed on the indictment after it was filed Friday in Miami County Common Pleas Court. He will be arraigned Tuesday on the charges.

He was sworn in as a West Milton police officer On Oct. 9, 2018.

Wright was placed on paid administrative leave when an investigation into possible criminal conduct began Dec. 10 by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, West Milton Police Chief Harry Busse said.

Wright was placed on unpaid administrative leave as of Friday when the charges were served.

He previously worked at the Covington Police Department and is a Navy veteran. The West Milton department had not had any issues with Wright before the investigation was initiated, Busse said.

Wright’s personnel file is being reviewed by the village law director before public release.
