HIGH POINT, N.C. — A North Carolina father and three other family members are behind bars after authorities said they tried to kill a child in High Point.

According to WFMY and WGHP, the child’s father, Bradley Xavier Kimble, 38; stepmother, Ajia Latoria Marshall, 31; stepgrandfather, Russell Prentice Bruinton, 57; and stepgrandmother, Janie Benita Marshall, 53, are facing numerous charges in the case, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, child abuse and conspiracy to commit child abuse.

High Point police and other agencies began to investigate the case Feb. 17 after the child’s elementary school reported the possible abuse to authorities, WGHP wrote. Authorities found evidence that the child had been abused, neglected and suffered health problems and “significant” injuries, the news outlet reported.

Authorities arrested Kimble and Ajia Marshall on Friday, while Janie Marshall and Bruinton were taken into custody Tuesday, according to WFMY.
