Nevada earthquake: 5.5 magnitude quake reported near Mina, USGS says

MINA, Nev. — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 struck Nevada early Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported overnight.

According to the agency, the quake occurred about 1:13 a.m. PST and was centered about 20.5 miles southeast of Mina, Nevada, at a depth of 3.9 miles. Several others, ranging in magnitude from 2.5 to 4.4, occurred in the same area within the next half-hour, the agency reported.

The USGS initially reported that a preliminary 5.2 magnitude quake occurred near Olancha, California, about 1:14 a.m. PST, but the agency later deleted the record.

No information about possible damage or injuries was immediately available.
