Volunteers across the country took a moment out of the busy holiday season Saturday to honor the nation’s fallen heroes.
Wreaths Across America filled national and veteran cemeteries with wreaths, placed on the graves of the men and women who served their country from the Revolutionary War through today.
Each wreath placed is called a Veteran’s Wreath and they are filled with symbolism. Ten separate balsam bouquets are put together, each with a separate message: Faith, love, strength, honesty, humility, ambitions, optimism, concern, pride and, finally, hopes and dreams. The evergreens stand for longevity and endurance; the red bow -- stands for great sacrifice. The scent of the wreath symbolizes purity and simplicity, while the circle form of the wreath is the symbol of eternity.
