BESSEMER, Ala. — A man died Sunday after being shot following an argument over the Alabama-Texas A&M college football game, according to multiple reports.
Police responded to reports of a person shot in the 1000 block of 6th Avenue North in Bessemer at 10:45 p.m. Saturday, WIAT reported. They found a man shot several times in the torso and transported him to the University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital, where he died around 3:20 a.m. Sunday, according to the news station.
The Jefferson County coroner identified the victim to WTVM as Kealand Amad Pickens, 27, of Bessemer.
Police told WBRC that two people were asked to leave a home in the Birmingham suburb Saturday night after they began to argue over whether the Texas A&M Aggies or the Alabama Crimson Tide were the better team. Once the two were outside the house, authorities said shots were fired. People inside the home found Pickets shot when they went outside, according to WBRC.
The shooter fled the scene, WIAT reported.
The Aggies claimed a stunning 41-38 victory over the Crimson Tide on Saturday, breaking Alabama’s 19-game winning streak, according to ESPN. The loss also ended Alabama’s streak of 100 wins over unranked teams, which dated back to 2007, The Associated Press reported.
