COMPTON, Calif. — A 67-year-old man died Sunday in a possible road rage attack after a collision in Southern California, authorities said.
One person has been arrested on suspicion of murder, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The sheriff’s department said the incident took place at about 5:40 p.m. in an unincorporated area of Compton.
Deputies responding to the scene found the victim on the ground suffering from multiple injuries, KCBS reported. They determined that the victim had been involved in a crash and had exited his vehicle to confront the other driver, who had also gotten out of his car, KTLA reported.
According to the news release, the argument led to a fight, and the victim was beaten. The suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and ran over the man repeatedly, deputies said.
When the victim’s vehicle became disabled, the suspect fled the scene on foot, KTLA reported. Deputies responding to the scene detained the suspect, the television station reported.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s department said.
Authorities said the suspect’s name is not being released and a booking photo will not be released.
