Mabel “Madea” Simmons has returned.
Netflix has released the first trailer for Tyler Perry’s latest installment of the matriarch’s story — “A Madea Homecoming,” Variety reported.
This time the story is about her great-grandson’s graduation and family secrets that could knock the celebration off the rails, BET reported.
Perry has been portraying Madea since the 1999 play “I Can Do Bad All by Myself,” according to Variety.
The character was supposed to be retired after 2019′s “A Madea Family Funeral” and his “Farewell Play Tour” the next year.
The tour ended right as the coronavirus pandemic hit and Perry said that he reconsidered his plans because the world needed the outlet.
“I was done with Madea, completely done with it … But as I’ve been looking at the state of the world — and I finished a tour in January, just before the pandemic started to break in the country — and the amount of joy and laughter that it brought to so many people, that’s what I think is missing. We need that laughter and that joy,” Perry told Variety in 2020.
“A Madea Homecoming” will start streaming on Feb. 25 and is the first Madea film made exclusively for the streaming platform, BET reported.
It was made at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta last summer.
