Former NBA player Amar’e Stoudemire accused of punching daughter

MIAMI — Former NBA player Amar’e Stoudemire is accused of punching one of his teenage daughters, according to a published report.

Stoudemire, 40, who played 15 seasons in the NBA from 2003 to 2017, was arrested early Sunday at his Miami condominium, the Miami Herald reported. He was charged with one count of misdemeanor battery, according to Miami-Dade County online booking records.

TMZ also reported the arrest.

According to an arrest report obtained by the Herald, the alleged victim was one of Stoudemire’s two daughters, who are 17 and 14 years old, respectively. The report does not specify which teen was allegedly struck, but it did report that Stoudemire punched her in the jaw and slapped her in the face, drawing blood.

“I observed blood stains on the victim’s sweater and sweatpants,” the arrest report states, according to the newspaper. “The mother of the victim showed me the photo she received from her daughter, which shows the victim crying and blood running down her face.”

Police responded to Carbonnell Brickell at about 10 p.m. EST Saturday, the Herald reported, citing the arrest report.

The basketball player’s ex-wife, Alexis Stoudemire, said she went to the condominium to pick up her daughter because Amar’e Stoudemire said the teen was being “disrespectful” toward her grandmother on the telephone.

According to the arrest report, Stoudemire decided to exercise his right to remain silent, the Herald reported.

Stoudemire was drafted in the first round by the Phoenix Suns in the 2002 NBA Draft (ninth overall), according to Basketball-Reference.com. He was drafted after excelling during his senior season at Cypress Creek High School in Orlando, where he was named Florida Mr. Basketball in 2002.

He played in six NBA All-Star Games and moved from the Suns to the New York Knicks as a free agent in 2010, according to Basketball-Reference.com. He moved to the Dallas Mavericks at the end of the 2014-15 season and spent his final NBA season with the Miami Heat in 2015-16.

After the NBA, played in Israel with Hapel Jerusalem, Fujian Sturgeons and Maccabi Tel Aviv, the Herald reported.

Stoudemire will appear in court for an arrangement hearing on Jan. 17, 2023, according to online court records. As of Sunday afternoon, Stoudemire remained at the Miami-Dade Corrections custody with bail set at $1,500, records show.
