FREEHOLD, N.J. — A Federal Express driver went above the call of duty, stopping along his route to pick up and fold an American flag that had toppled over Friday in strong winds.
Rick Guerino was eating lunch when he got an alert from his home surveillance camera and saw the driver on his front porch, News 12 New Jersey reported.
"I didn’t know what he was doing at first. ... I was like, ‘What are you doing?’” Guerino, who was not expecting a package, told News 12 New Jersey. "I see him bend down and pick up the flag. I didn’t even realize my flagpole was down.”
The driver properly folded the flag, then carefully set it in a safe place.
“He really respected the flag, and you don’t see that too often,” Guerino told News 12 New Jersey. “That’s what hits here.”
The company is attempting to identify the driver.
“FedEx Ground is proud of the many contributions our team members make to our communities every day,” a FedEx spokesperson told News 12 New Jersey. “We commend the actions of this service provider employee, who went above and beyond by carefully and respectfully securing the flag on the homeowner’s behalf.”
