COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A bank robber in Colorado Springs didn’t want to be a Grinch, according to an eyewitness.
The robbery took place at Academy Bank around lunchtime Monday, KKTV reported. David Wayne Oliver is accused of threatening a teller with a weapon and taking an undisclosed amount of cash, The Gazette reported.
Eyewitness Dion Pascale told KKTV that as Oliver emerged from the bank he “started throwing money out of the bag and then said, ‘Merry Christmas!’” Bystanders collected the money and returned it to the bank, KKTV reported.
“He started throwing the money out of the bag and said ‘Merry Christmas!’...so everyone picked it up and gave it back to the teller. “

Oliver was apprehended by police at a nearby Starbucks, according to the KKTV report.
