If you’re planning on heading out of town this weekend, be prepared for headaches and delays impacting your itinerary.
Hospitalitynet.org and Tripadvisor said that about a quarter of Americans plan to travel this weekend. People are expected to be spending more money this weekend, with the average projected to be 74% higher than last Easter despite the recent increase of COVID-19 cases.
Many of those braving the highways and airports — 65% of travelers — think that it is safe to go out of town, with many saying that they are more comfortable visiting businesses that have some COVID-19 safety measures, such as sanitation, contactless technology and social distancing in place, according to Tripadvisor.
Tripadvisor found that 90% of Americans will travel within the country, with 47% staying within four hours of home, traveling by either train or car.
Florida and Arizona are the states that will be the most visited this weekend.
If you are heading to the airport, you will not be alone.
The Transportation Security Administration said it has screened almost 2.1 million people every day this week, which is just short of pre-pandemic levels, the “Today” show reported.
However, the airlines are still having troubles with staffing, which could lead to additional delays if the weather causes any hiccups.
JetBlue has slashed 10% of flights because of the lack of staffing, while Alaska Airlines has cut 2% of flights, “Today” reported.
