DETROIT — A 2-year-old boy was killed and a 9-year-old boy was seriously hurt when gunfire erupted on Interstate 75 in Detroit, authorities said.
According to The Detroit News and WJBK, the incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday near McNichols Road. Michigan State Police said a driver was traveling on I-75 southbound when someone inside “a light-colored, four-door passenger car” opened fire at the victims’ vehicle.
“The victim driver pulled over at McNichols and noticed both of their children were shot. A 2-year-old male child was transported to a local hospital, where we was pronounced dead,” police tweeted overnight.
Crews also transported the older boy to the hospital, where he was in serious condition, police said.
Update: Preliminary investigation revealed that on 06/17 at 9:45 PM, a driver had entered south I-75 from Seven Mile Road, city of Detroit, when a light colored four door passenger car pulled up next to them. No license plate was obtained. pic.twitter.com/liFhcmDhNs

Detroit Interim Police Chief James White said investigators are searching for a silver Chrysler 300 with no tag, the news outlets reported.
