Coronavirus: Texas nursing residents post sign messages to family on social media

GONZALES, Texas — Residents of nursing homes nationwide are feeling pangs of separation as the coronavirus pandemic has forced them to be isolated from their families. But residents at one South Texas facility have come up with a creative way to connect with loved ones.

Staff members at Texan Nursing Rehab of Gonzales, located east of San Antonio, posted photographs of residents holding up signs with messages to their families, KSAT reported.

Nursing home staffers posted the photographs on Facebook, with messages such as “I am doing alright (sic) and I will be happy when I can see you again."

Another resident posted this plea: “When this is all over come and see me and bring me the Lone Star Light. I only have one left!” One woman bragged about her prowess at games, posting, "I’m still beating them all at Wahoo and Bingo.”

"We have to get creative in ways to continue to give families insight into our daily activities,” Wendy Moore, regional director of marketing for the facility, told KSAT. “Our team continues to go above and beyond utilizing the social platform to give our families peace of mind during this time.”
