Coronavirus: Kentucky family’s TikTok dance videos combine fun, laughter

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky man and his sons are creating joy on social media with their TikTok dance videos, giving people something to smile about during the coronavirus pandemic.

The McFarland family, from Louisville, has garnered more than 10 million views, WDRB reported.

“We never started making videos to end up here,” Dylan McFarland, the youngest of Dan McFarland’s three sons, told the television station. “If you told us a year ago that we’d be where we are, we’d have said, ‘You’re nuts.’ But brands are reaching out to us and saying ‘We love what you guys are doing ... we want to partner with you and have you guys come up with something great.’”

The videos show Dan and his sons in short, family-friendly skits that blossom into dance routines that run 20 to 40 seconds.

Originally, the family shared videos on Vine, but switched to TikTok when their original social platform was discontinued, WDRB reported.

Their recent TikTok video took on the Blinding Lights challenge and sent their numbers soaring, WDRB reported. And, like most performers, there are blooper videos, too.

“These guys have been like this all the time, and my house is always fun,” Kathy McFarland, the mom of the house, told WDRB. “You see what you see, and that’s what I see every day.”

“When most families are together and have a lot of down time, we love showing that you can have fun,” Colin McFarland told the television station.

“Inspiring creativity in other people when everyone’s together and quarantined makes it worth so much more to us,” Dylan McFarland said.
