Actor and comedian Sinbad is recovering Monday from a recent stroke, family members said in a statement obtained by The Associated Press and Variety.
“It is out of sincere love that we share Sinbad, our beloved husband and father, is recovering from a recent stroke,” the statement said.
“Sinbad is a light source of love and joy for many generations. While he is beginning his road to recovery, we are faithful and optimistic that he will bring laughter into our hearts soon.”
Sinbad, born David Adkins, turned 64 last week. He is known for his stand-up comedy and for appearances on sitcoms like “A Different World” and “The Sinbad Show.” He’s also appeared in several films, including “Good Burger” and “Hansel and Gretel.”
He most recently appeared in the Fox sitcom “Rel,” which ran for one season from 2018 to 2019.
“Our family thanks you in advance for your love and support and ask for continued prayers for his healing,” the Adkins family statement said. “We also ask that you please respect our privacy during this time.”
