SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A “rude person” is credited with causing a southern California woman to push the wrong button on a lottery vending machine, earning her millions of dollars.
In a news release, the California State Lottery said LaQuedra Edwards was deciding what lottery ticket to buy when she said “some rude person” bumped into her, causing her to accidentally hit a button on the machine. Edwards had already put $40 into the machine, and pushing the button caused her to spend $30 on a single ticket.
“He just bumped into me, didn’t say a thing and just walked out the door,” Edwards said.
Edwards waited until she was in the car to start scratching the ticket, and discovered she won the game’s top prize of $10 million.
“I didn’t really believe it at first, but I got on the 405 freeway and kept looking down at (the ticket), and I almost crashed my car,” Edwards said in a statement.
Edwards said she plans to use her winnings to buy a house and start a nonprofit organization, KABC reported.
The supermarket where Edwards bought the ticket will get a $50,000 bonus.
